2009 Tax Rebates, Second Stimulus Checks
2009 Tax Rebates, Second Stimulus ChecksWill an Economic Stimulus Package Contain Money or Create New Jobs?
Will there be another government stimulus? 2009 tax rebates - who won't get a second stimulus check in a 2009 economic stimulus package? What would create new jobs?
As President-Elect Barack Obama gets ready to take office, the question on many Americans’ minds is “Will I get another tax rebate?” This article shares predictions about a potential second stimulus check. 2009 Economic Stimulus Package: Will There Be a Second Stimulus Check? The daily news is bursting with anticipation of what Obama’s presidency will bring. Seemingly on everyone’s mind is whether or not there will be a new economic stimulus package and if a second stimulus check will be in the mix. The media certainly plays up this aspect to quite a degree. A general consensus appears to be that there will be another stimulus package moving through Washington early in Obama’s presidency; however, this author predicts that more tax rebates for individuals will not be part of the deal. Why not? Primarily because the United States is in dire need of new jobs, and a tax rebate given to individuals doesn’t directly stimulate job creation. On the other hand, government stimulus in the form of funds for infrastructure projects would boost the U.S. economy and fulfill Barack Obama’s promise to create new jobs. The article Talk of a 2009 Obama Economic Stimulus Plan discusses infrastructure projects in more detail, including how they would create jobs and pump cash back into the economy. If There Is Another Economic Stimulus Check: Who Probably Won’t Get 2009 Tax Rebates? If there is a second round of tax rebates, not everyone will get one. The 2008 tax rebate was only given to those who paid taxes or had what was called "qualifying income" of at least $3,000. Taking the last round of government stimulus checks as a guide, and considering Barack Obama’s stances on taxes, it is safe to assume that there will be income caps on who will receive checks and income thresholds to qualify. Obama, on his campaign website, mentions tax breaks for "working Americans," which leads this author to believe that he would only give tax rebates to those who pay taxes or have some sort of equivalent to qualifying income from the 2008 tax rebate rules. To recap, this author believes that 2009 tax rebates for individuals are highly unlikely. However, as job creation is a big concern, government stimulus by way of infrastructure projects is very likely. Parts of the 2009 economic stimulus package will be designed to create new jobs for the U.S. economy. Update: The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 was signed by President Barack Obama on February 17, 2009. This measure provides that one-time federal government economic stimulus checks be distributed to certain veterans, Social Security & Supplemental Security Income recipients, and railroad retirees. See the articles $250 Stimulus Checks for Veterans & Retirees and Who Isn't Getting $250 Economic Stimulus Checks for more information. Resource: Barack Obama and Joe Biden campaign website

by bailing out all of these companies we are not gaining anything. We need
to put more money in the working class Amercian's pocket, so they can
afford to go make purchases that are needed by the companies we keep
bailing out. If I get myself in major finacial trouble its too bad for me
but if a large company gets into finacial trouble they are there waiting
with their hands out for the gov. to bail them out. WE NEED THIS ECONOMIC
STIMULUS PACKAGE!!!

If we receive a stimulus check we will have money for a while, if they give
a stimulus check to create jobs we will have jobs. I would much rather have
a job that I know is going to be there every day so I can earn money for my
family. A one time handout isn't going to last very long. I know that
getting money sounds better, but there is no future in it.

It looks like the second stimulus check is not coming as expected by
millions (
http://www.savingtoinvest.com/2009/01/no-second-stimulus-rebate-checks-1000
.html ). Tax rebates are now the preferred option of the Obama
adminstration. Is it to win Republican support or good policy? I think it
is both.

I have had to use a credit card (which was a ZERO balance at the beginning
of 2008) to pay for medical, heating, food, etc...basically to
survive...wages for most of us do not increase with the cost of living...a
person who has worked her entire life should not, at age 56, be worried
about where her next medical payment or heating bill is coming from...I
think individuals earning less than $100,000 should not have to pay 30% +
of their wages in taxes, which in turn is used to bail out banks/mortgage
companies/and auto makers when they themselves cannot make ends meet
regardless of how hard they might try . . . even taking on additional work.
If I ran my personal finances the way these people have run big business
(with all of their bonuses and high wages), I would not have a
chance...there is no one out there to bail me out?

It sounds as though the poor and the elderly will receive no help from the
stimulus package that the Obama team has come up with. Our only source of
income is social security so a tax credit will not help us and the poor do
not make enough to even pay taxes. A stimulus check would help buy things
we can not normally afford. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
The banks and AIG don't appreciate it but we sure would.

I think instead of bailing out all the rich and these companies that made
the economy like it is now should close, and new people in Washington and
congress and so on should be replaced. I also think the rebate check will
help millions of americans, and using it for jobs don't work out. If
people want a job, there is always a job to be found.

We need to help the actual working class. I think they should send a $1000
check to everyone that is working and earning less than $100,000 a year.

It's sad..but in the end the working class pays for the poor and rich. poor
sit home and collect tax dollars because most are to lazy to get a job.
Don't give me that bs that you cant find one either. I lost a
pharmaceutical job 10yrs ago and now im am finally making that pay again
ten yrs later. to survive i worked 2 jobs to make it. And i went out every
day applying anywhere, and took any job i could and just kept searching for
a better paying job. And most rich people (owners and politicians..ect)sit
back and screw the working class. It will soon be only 2 class's rich and
poor.

more money help people that deserve it.not just go and waste it on stupid
stuff help people that have kids, and need it.who dont have insurance and
needs to pay medical bills.

First, I would just like to say that a stimulus package would be great to
help this economy. But I am so tired of people hating on the rich, and I
say this and I am a single mom with two kids living paycheck to paycheck.
The rich are just doing what they know best and that is to get money!! Some
consider them to be greedy but I consider them to be motivated and focused
on what rises above the rest out here which is money!!! Some of us are to
lazy to get out there and do what we have to do. As far as medicine, why do
some of you try to go to these pharmacies that offer free generic
medicine.

im certain that if another rebate check would come our way, we would spend

The stimulus payment was a joke. $300 doesn't buy anything these days.
Those of us who live alone, are disabled or elderly could surely have used
the $600 a lot more. If I would have gotten that, I would have been able
to get my car fixed instead of begging people for a ride. Then I see those
commercials on TV about "We owed the IRS three million dollars and
only had to pay a million", its things like that which make the rich
richer and the poor poorer. It cost me $12,000 to pay off a $3,500 student
loan! Go figure. Yeah well thats the government for ya!!!!

The stimulus pkg is great if its for creating jobs. I don't believe handing
out more money to people in form of checks. all its going to do is be
mostly spent on by some is material things that they prob don't need. Tax
season is around the corner. Wait to se if you get a reg refund and use
that. Lets not put our country into more debt by shelling out money to
people. Put it where it needs to go. Making jobs, financing ways of going
green to save our country. Americans are so spoiled and want it now now now
and think everyone owes them. We need to think about our future and that of
our children instead of worrying about what we are going to be given. and I
don't agree at all with the whole bailing out of Big companies either.
Again money that could have gone back into job creation, and bettering
other programs instead of giving fat ceo's more money to do whatever. I
love my country, my husband fights for it everyday, but this crying over
stimulus checks and "oh I deserve one, make my life easier" crap
is a joke. Put the money where it needs to go. Into making America the
great country we are, not into people's pockets so they can complain in a
few months how they have no money again.

I TOTALLY SUPPORT A SECOND ROUND OF STIMULUS CHECKS FOR THOSE OF US WHO
HAVE BEEN LAID OFF FROM A JOB, PAY THEIR OWN HEALTH INSURANCE, OR JUST NEED
TO PAY BILLS. PUTTING ANY MONIES BACK INTO THE ECONOMY IS A PLUS. INSTEAD
OF BAILING OUT THESE BIG BLEEDING-HEART COMPANIES, THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD
HAVE SENT EVERY AMERICAN A $50,000.00 CHECK, WITH STIPULATIONS, TO PAY OFF
THEIR DEBT, AND STIMULATE THE ECONOMY. NOBODY IS GOING TO TELL ME THIS
WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A POSITIVE STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. BUT INSTEAD
THESE COMPANIES WILL PROBABLY DO WHAT THEY DO BEST-WASTE, WASTE, WASTE!!!!
AND AGAIN, THE LITTLE MAN STRUGGLES!!!

we have to file seperate tac returns this year so at least we can get some
refund this year from one income, and just go on and owe on the other. My
kids dont have health insurance and when we applied to the government
insurance for kids, the kind you have to pay a small premium each month, we
did not qualify, becouse we were over $12 the income limit. America does
not care for uninsured children anymore, we truly cannot afford their
medical expenses. IF WE WOULD GET A STIMULUS CHECK I WOULD HAVE MY KIDS GET
A CHECK UP AND THEIR SHOTS UPDATED. Sorry cannot pump money in the economy.
I AM TOO POOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if we get a one time bail out check as americans it brings me to a quote in
the bible "give a man a fish and you feed him for a day but teach the
man to fish and you feed him for life" if we get a hand out it solves
the problem for a few days but not in the long run we need to creat jobs
that pay more and increase the minimum wage drastically...6.15/hr isnt crap
when your bills are over 2g a month

Why are we bailing out big companies that pay big bonus's to CEO's and if
the auto companies can't make money, then cut the pay of the workers to a
place where you are profitable. Unions are no good without a company to
push around so I say let the company go under and show the union what
they've accomplished.

Have people lost their minds? There are millions of dollars still
unaccounted for from the last stimulus checks. There were countless checks
mailed to wrong addresses, etc. Granted, it would be nice to get a check
from the government, but until they can become competent at doing ANYTHING,
let's not wish them to throw more taxpayer money away!

I would like to know why some people automatically think that people who
get help from the government are lazy and don't want to work? Let me break
it down: When you're on the system you get help with everyday needs like
housing, food, and medical care. As soon as you decide to better yourself
and get a job they take it all away. Then you quickly see that you can't
make it with your job and quit to get you benefits back. I don't care what
anyone says if "good" jobs were so plentiful then we wouldn't
have any poor people. The system is screwed up. I agree that the government
shouldn't have been so quick to give these companies money, especially when
they still didn't do what they were suppose to do with it. I think that we
should get another rebate check. It's our money that they're spending
anyway!

We all should get a second stimulus check. If you want us to buy or pay
off bills, how about some help. The big shot CEO's of the auto companies
put themselves in the shape they're in. Most of us didn't.
Those of us on Social Security disability purchase items at stores the same as others and we feel the crunch of the economy just like everyone else. Plus we are trying to raise a 5 year old grandchild due to a very bad drug situation. How about some help? If you are related to the child you're raising, you do not get foster care reimbursement as many people think - you're pretty much on your own. The one thing you do get is the satisfaction of knowing that this child is safe and loved!! Jan 8, 2009 4:19 PM

Give the money to the people and call it a day...It's about time the people
have a say and are heard...we can comment all we want to but until the
policians hear us it will do no good!!!!!!!!!! "So much for by the
people for the people" it sounds like "Business as usual"
except for the fact that we have new players

The stimulus checks would be nice...not going to happen...Obama is stuck on
the idea that a tax cut will help. The tax cut would only put like an extra
$40-$50 per month back into our pockets. For people that are hurting that
$50 won't do anything but maybe let a person who is making it in life by
the skin of their teeth ,break even. For the rest of us hurting we are just
going to hurt. Its going to be a long bumpy trip we have ahead of us. Going
to be many more jobs lost. More homes foreclosed. Renters being evicted and
tables with no food.

What is the point of bailing out a company that asks for money knowing they
can't repay it? Everyone knows the government won't ever see that money
again. Why not bail out all the people that are currently getting laid off
and losing their jobs? The people of the United States needs the money
more than a company that put itself out in the gutter.

The Government will see the bailout money back.. right from our pockets.
It's amazing that everyone is getting their homes & cars taken away and
left with no credit to purchase anything, have to pay deficiencies on the
cars & homes they do not own & pay taxes to cover the very same
corporations that already get most of their paycheck! Tell me how that is
for the people of the USA? Its not, they could have gave the money from
the mortgage bailout alone to the people at over $200,000 per adult and we
would have bailed out the whole financial structure of our country by
paying off our own personal debts and going bigger & better as we
always do!

Well, it looks like some of you people here don't understand where all
these problems are coming from. Why are we Americans in a deep hole right
now? Well, the answer is obvious, Bad government, criminal congressmen,
criminal businessmen "auto industry, mortgage companies, and ya the
banks. How to solve the problem- get rid of all the non-needed government
programs that cost tax payers millions of dollars every year. Stop foreign
aid as we need the aid for our people. Don't go to war with a country and
use tax payer money to fix it up afterwards, if you go to war you fight for
ownership of the country and land like the way we did it in the older days.
As for the mortgage and banks, why help them when they don't help the
customers/ consumers. They have small print on everything they do and say
and ya that gives them the right to screw us. As for any and all government
positions I say if you are employed by the government you have to be
absolute honest and have no crominal agenda intentions ever. They should
give up all their privacy rights while employed for the government so they
can and will be recorded at all times and if a law is broken from a
government employee they should have a minimum of 5 years in prison and if
its a major crime then add on the years. These people are our leaders in
every state of our country and they think they have the right to do crime
with out doing the time I thinks its bull. Same with all the stock market
bull. If they steal from the people then they should put in some serious
time in prison. The citizens uf the USA work hard pay the dumb taxes and we
still end up losing in the end. If you like what you read here then spread
the word to all your friends and family and stand up for your rights. Let
the government know how we feel and urge them to make change before its to
late.

the problem with this country greed. why dont people working their butts
off making lets say 15 dollars or less per hour get three forths of the
stimulas of whatever is given, than you can worry about the rest of it for
you suckers out there. I guees being upper middle class isnt good enough

got checks and people that say they are on social security should only get
it if they meet some set of srandards. And there are poeple who are on it
that can work, but chose not to. You keep giving free moneny away people

As a working single parent I would love the 2nd rebate check, especially
since I had to max out my dependants on my W4 this year just to keep up
with medical bills - and thats with company offered insurance. Last years
check went to getting caught up on rent, which saved our apartment. But
there is no help for people like me because we work, pay in a high
percentage tax bracket, and still end up oweing.
Bailing out the car companies and banks wont help us because we still wont qualify for the loans to buy the cars or houses. Our credit has been damaged to much with the way things are to meet their criteria. So, those who have never had to choose between a gallon of milk and gas to get to work will stay safe while our children will keep hearing "I get paid next week, then I can get it". we have had to pay, would be nice to recieve acheck for 10K or more so
that we can pay off some debt and put some in saving and invest in the
future of our children future. Or we could recieve monies that would have
to be accounted for through a system that there would have to be some
acountability so the tax payers would have paid in to this program for such
a long time would be able to stay with the guidelines of the sending of the
stimulas check, be accountable for our sending for once.

Instead of giving billions of dollars to the stocks or to a car company
they should give a large chunk of money to each person who paid taxes last

then that way the money would be put back into our economy.

Lets look at it this way, instead of pumping the money into the big
businesses, give it to the people. Those of us with student loans out can
pay them off, those of us in forcloser can catch up the mortgage, those of
us without a job can spend time finding one without to much added stress,
those of THEM who have money, they can buy a new car, tv, furniture, wall
art, new roof, whatever tickles their fancy. Therefore, what have we done?
We have bailed out Sally Mae, AIG, Bank Of America, GMC, FORD, DODGE, and
all the other coward companies that don't give a rats rear end about the
working class and the fact that we struggle to keep our power on and decide
between which payment to make this month and which one to get phone calls
from the next month. I began pro-Bush, yet in the middle, I was upset, but
here recently, I was disgusted. What ever happened to DEMOCRACY? What ever
happened to the PEOPLES VOICE? What ever happened to our FREEDOM? But I
guess if I was making 400k/yr=Pres. or 176k/yr=Congress or would gave a
fart about the people either. And one final note, DON'T THINK THE
GOVERNMENT HAD NOTHING TO DUE WITH THE FALL OF GAS PRICES AND NOW THE
SUBSEQUENT RISE OF GAS PRICES. Put it together, the price fell shortly
before THANKSGIVING and began to rise after NEW YEARS. The government new
that more gas would be sold during holiday season if prices were lower ;)

I think that people of all areas should be given $10,000.00 each and let
them use it for whatever is needed. If the Government can give all the
money they gave to banks and business . They should be able to give each

The people can use it for saving their home ,buying a home, college ,buying a car, buying many needed items.,paying credit cards off or Doctor bills ,Fixing up the house and yard ,building a garage or addition ,going on a vacation many other items . This would build more confidence in the government , make people feel that they have been treated fairly and give them hope for the future. It is bad in Michigan. This will also put people back to work because people will be buying again. Darlene DeHate Jan 13, 2009 8:40 AM

It sounds good to get a check from the government. However, it comes with a
price. I am not for a second stimulus check unless its a higher amount.
Face it; $300 checks just doesn't do it. Now creating jobs would be a great
investment. The problem now is everyone is losing their jobs. If you create
more, you stand a better chance at boosting our economy. The rich are
greedy. Just look at the unions. Now I realize that unions was a good
creation back in the day however anymore all it does is make people lazy.
People just want everyone in a matter of days. Some poor are poor because
they are lazy others just gave up because whats the point. The rich run
this country. Look at lawyers. They are our government. They increase taxes
so people lose their homes then they come in buy them up. Then after they
buy all the homes and land they want, the lower the taxes. Go figure

good for a day ,but it want hrlp the economy because all the american
people is going to do is pay off bills, so we need aplan to create jobs and
put the american people back to work . and the bailout would have solve
that problem if they would have put it on main street. but like they the
rich stays rich and the poor get poorer.

sure . . .free money is great. But that won't solve this country's
problems. I've been to so many web sites where people are demanding more
money in the way of a stimulus check, and comparing today's economy to the
great depression. The reality is that this recession isn't even as bad as
the one in the early 80's. Sorry, but we've grown into a nation of
whiners. And before people start calling me a snob, take note: this is
coming from a man who lost his job and had to find employment in a
completely different career to make ends meet for his family. Simply
printing more money will not make problems go away. Sound financial
decisions at the family and government level is the only way out of this
hole we've dug for ourselves.

I think an economic stimulus would help but not as a permanent solution. I
know when I received mine last year it went right to my credit card bills
that at piling up continuously. This entire country in my opinion is at
fault and run so wrong on every level. Yes money is tight and jobs are
being lost everyday but why don't we get a grip on a big part of the
problem which I and many know is illegal immigration. It's funny how we
have so long to go over seas before we have to be out but in the good old
USA you can stay as you please, and at least they do illegally. If we
would get rid of all the illegal’s that would open up a hell of a lot more
jobs that TRUE AMERICANS could use on an everyday basis. Yes I know we
have grown to be lazy but if the American people want to make a stand get
up off your A$$ and start getting your life together. There's no reason we
should need to incorporate the Spanish language as a second language. The
language is ENGLISH and we shouldn’t have to struggle to understand
immigrants that can’t speak clear or any English. The same goes with
doctors, I can’t even find an American doctor anymore for the main part and
when it comes to your health you want to know what the hell they are
talking about clearly. Another problem in immigration is the fact that
every single one of them as soon as they get here immediately gets pregnant
and have children which we the WORKING CLASS people pay so much money in
taxes for schooling, medical, food and every other part of there lives and
it's not only unfair but its drastically hurting this Country in everyway.
Now I know immigration isn’t the only problem and there are many more but
stick with getting a resolution to the main problems and work day by day to
eliminate this huge Economic Downfall. Its simple math, if prices go up
and wages stay the same its apparent there's something wrong. For instance
I'm a working class guy that makes $46,000 USD per year which even though
that’s not much is sadly considered a somewhat decent salary for the
average middle class person and with a whopping 1,000 dollar last year
increase in a decent career is pathetic considering my property taxes
increased quite a bit this past year as well as every other thing. Like I
said before there's many problems but we the middle class hurt the most and
we must have change in order to get this back on track so stop with the
company bailouts and start bailing out the people that actually truly need
it. !!!!!!

A second stimulas check is definately needed. However, to give each United
States Citizen $1000.00 would only be another band-aid. Rather than all
these bail-outs, giving each citizen who earns under $100,000/year a rebate
check of $100,000 would help them get out of debt. Once we are out of
debt, we could begin spending again, thus stimulating the economy. In
truth, we can all post our comments, but we all know the government will do
what they choose and the economy will continue to deteriate.

A second stimulus check is much needed. However, it must be a large amount
so that everyone can get themselves out of debt, and then go out and spend.
Any tax breaks would more than likely be too small for each family to even
realize. And for goodness sakes, it must be given to each citizen, whether
you have a job, don't have a job, are a student, are receiving disability,
social security, unemployment or whatever. There should be no exceptions.
Let's pray we get this help for everyone and get our country back to the
place where it should be. Then, let's do away with all these easily
accessible avenues of "credit" that have gotten us where we are
right now.

Well, as everyone may or may not know. The stimulus payment we received
last year is being taken out of our income tax returns this year. I think
it would be a great stimulus to let us keep our complete income tax return
to help boost the economy. Because now the money that most people get to
buy bigger priced items or pay some bills at this time of year is not going
to be there.

Let's just do a few simple things: Make the 2001 tax cuts permanent, else
everyone will have less money in their pockets by 2010. Then, eliminate
the death/inheritance tax--it takes as much money out of the economy as the
upcoming "stimulus" is supposed to pump in, and it hurts family
farmers and other family businesses that are capital intense. Repeal the
CAFE standards so automakers can build the cars people want to buy. Drop
the tax rate for the repatriation of corporate capital to about 5 percent
so multi-national U.S. companies will bring their profits home. These
things would actually stimulate the economy. A "check" from the
government simply takes money out of the economy and truly redistributes
it, so the net effect is zero growth. If we overstimulate and overprint
money we'll be back to the good-old-days of Jimmy Carter and double digit
inflation and double digit interest rates. Let's not go back there to his
years of malaise. Let me keep my money in my own pocket, not let the
government bureaucrats "redistribute" it.

We have gotten an eviction notice (3 days b4 christmas), the only car we
have is about to be taken (and there is only 2 payments left on it), our
phones have been shut off, and we have 3 kids. Yes, I am definitely in
favor of a second rebate!!! Due to having one child not in school, and no
way to pay for daycare, I am limited on the hours that I can work. In this
small town, there are no jobs avaliable. The next closest town is 35 miles
away, so I would be driving my paycheck away just to get to work if I
worked out of town. There was someone on here that said something about
"dont give me that crap that you cant find a job", well, some
people arent fortunate enough to have a college degree or live in a big
town where there are always jobs avaliable. I have been looking, actively,
for 4 months and I actually have 2 licenses in the medical field, so count
your blessings that you are able to find a job easily enough to make a
mockery of those of us that cant. I hope something happens soon, because we
dont have too much more time before we have nothing left.

Im all for this second stimulis check,People are definatly in dire need of
help during these troubled times we are all seeing. But in all fairness I
feel this check should be going too all those who actually worked over the
last year,People who actually paid in to their taxes over the last year
prior not to those who are recieving sociol security checks. We the workers
are seeing pay freezes, layoffs etc and unfortunatly we do not get a check
from sociol security to accomodate the losses and we are having to live off
this fixed income..People on sociol security do not pay in too taxes
anymore have lived on these fixed incomes and gotten by up until now. Last
year when those stimulis checks came out they all recieved a check too. Now
how fare was that to the people who paid taxes all year and health
insurance etc. These people are recieviving a check every month no matter
what most get low income housing, medical benefits through the state and
food stamps us hard workers in every field are worried if our jobs will
even be there tommorow. We pay all our taxes, food and medical. So yes lets
get that second stimulis check approved for those of us whe actually worked
last year...

think this is all crazy, I agree have them give us 5000 or more...that
would help. They could give it to us in the summertime too instead of
during tax time. Our kids are grown, our credit isn't good enough to buy a
home so we rent..we have no deductions, that is why we pay in. Live
paycheck to paycheck. We need a break somewhere.

money I get back goes to pay past due bills. When they gave the stimulus

All you people talking about bailouts to pay medical bills cause you dont
have insurance, or dont have a job because you lost your minimum wage job
need to realize that you are in the situation you are in because you
decided not to go to school. Everyone should have to live with the choices
they make in life. YOU DECIDED not to get a higher education, or more
likly didn't even finish your primary education. If you want your
situation to get better then DO SOMETHING TO HELP YOURSELF!!! Bitching
about how the government isnt giving you enough free money, so you can't

amount of bailout money will help you. STAND UP FOR YOURSELF AND STOP

I think that most of these comments are true. The American peopple do need
help - but I don't know that a stimulus check is going to do that. It may
be a quick fix, but it is at the expense of our already debted
government.
I also think that the person who said "go to college and do something with your life" also had mommy and daddy pay for his/her schooling and had it handed to them growing up - expecially if he/she is not in debt. Not everyone has that luxury. Jan 23, 2009 1:21 PM

are you people kidding me? my father is disabled, he had to sue to get his
benifits, 4 years later he finally got them. but he was 7 points short so
he got put on ssi. 7 POINTS! so he gets $674 a month with a $500 a month
rent bill. you people think its easy being disabled? its not! and most
people that SHOULD get ssd dont they get put on SSI. so yes, we on ssi
SHOULD get a stimulus check.
i myself am legally blind, but have to stay at home to take care of my mother, id love to work. find me a job that requires no experiance since i cant leave her alone and that pays well from home and ill take it in a heart beat! Jan 24, 2009 9:16 AM

I have been collecting disability since August of 2008, therefore, was not

Why not Take all the Stimulus checks they want to give us and use them to
pay workers. Obama could build wind farms for energy efficiency and pay
Americans to build them. That would 1) Create Jobs. 2) Government Health
care. 3) supply and Demand. Its like this people If you Close down Ford
How many people will lose there jobs at ford? Now How many people will that
affect out side the ford motor company. A lot right. Just do it back words.
Create Jobs for wind farms and then You need heavy equipment material
engineers laborers all these thing and more and it would just and i quote

Im disabled,Have been for 15 years. This government has not cared about the
u.s. citizens for a very very long time.If they spend our money for BS
projects. And get in a bind,Here,s the answer come up with a new tax.Wake up
AMERICA!. What needs to happen is have a million man march/an woman an
children,On capitol Hill.Stimulus package 600/1200 is ok it helped a
little. But you want to help america,s economy give the people about 5000
dollars single people,10000 married couple tax credit on taxes.I would pay
off all my bills an some to spend an could still save a little. THATS
REALITY!.Oh yea for the kid above I am educated, worked my tail off for 30
years, then became disabled.Had a good life too then it sunk couldn,t afford
the luxuries after that.So think before you speak about people.Because your
what my common sense grandfather would call an educated idiot. God bless
you though glad your doing so well.People we need too come together all 300
million white/black/brown/mexican/asian/indian,an all the rest.this is why
we left british an english government. An it hasn,t changed,we let a few
thousand,control millions.they want to keep us divided,whites/ blacks/
hispanics an so on.As long as were divided an fighting. They set back spend
your money anyway they see fit.An you have no control what so ever.next
election!.Put all there old a--es out of there we would do better voting
for a complete stranger or unknown.coffee an dounuts year after year is
getting old.fresh faces, fresh brains,ted kennedy,pelosi,reed ,franks,Do
not care about you people.next election vote on someone you know nothing
about.Get there old a es out of there.I think they have had long
enough. And have not done a DAMN thing. What do you have too lose it can,t
get much worse!. God bless America an all people in it.

stop bailing out the companies and bail out the people working to save
there families and there jobs. Auto makers make there bed and we have to
suffer for it. If every family got $25,000 most of them will go on a
spending spare. That means the economy will start to level out, because
people will spend the money(buying new cars and whatever else they need)
Seems like a no brainer to me.

I have to agree with most of the other people on here. Give the money to

many other people. Give the money to the people and let them buy a new

help the people first, then the people will be able to help the
companies.

OK I worked for 4 months to get a small business started. The local
government fought me tooth and nail. I had $25,000 invested and the county
had a county plan that did not include my business and they fought me with
get this and get that and finally I did. I got everything they wanted me to
get a structural engineer, a lot approved by the fire department, just
stupid stuff that they do not ask any other business for ( I know I asked
all the other businesses) I got final approval and 7 days later my building
burnt to the ground. I had no insurance because with out the structural
engineer they refused to let me get insurance. so no insurance. I just
read where someone was as-pounding that everyone could get up off their
butt and get a job. Well let me tell you this government local and federal
want all of us to be dumbed down and doing slave labor. Corporate interest
and foreign interest are taking over our country. these bailouts will just
lead to socialism. I don't want a bail out I want a government that will
not fight me but help me be in business. I could have helped 125 local
farmer bring their products to market with this business and I got no help
and finally burnt out.

Obama and the rest of the government needs to come up with a law that
lowers the price on everything based on income. Rich people need to pay
more for things like cars, houses, and food. People that are barely
surviving should not have to use their entire checks to buy food and pay
rent, and utility bills. The government needs to make all public utilities
free as long as you are paying your rent or mortgage. Also, make the big
banks (ie. Citi Bank, AIG, etc...) give the houses to the lower income
families now that they have been bailed out. They keep harassing people
even though they got their money. Also, they need to make it easier for
people with bad or no credit to get things. Banks and credit unions have
all but dried up on lending money unless your credit score is over 700.
Interest rates need to drop as well. Paying 11.25% on a car note kills
people. 96% of the payment goes to interest every month. I hope Obama
reads this and makes these changes. I agree with a previous post, give
everyone 10-20,000 dollars and then the economy will be stimulated. Let us
send you a bill for all of our bills and have the government pay it off.
Then I can put my money into the government. Minimum wage should also be
increased to $20.00 or so. No one can live off of $15.00 anymore, let
alone $7.58. That is ridiculous! Come on Obama, do the right thing!
Create jobs, lower taxes, interest, lessen the credit stranglehold, and
give us a nice stimulus check, not a crappy $300.00 a person. One last
thing, make medical care free. ALL OF IT! Medical, dental, vision, all of
it.

The goverment should give people money. Why are they helping banks and all
these other companies? CEOs are getting richer and we are going broke
everyday. Everything is more expensive everyday, people don't get raises
anymore. They expect us to survive with the same pay, but the price of
everything increases. Why does the goverment help so many other countries?
They should help their own people first! It's fine if they want to create
jobs, but I don't understand how that will work? if we can't afford to buy
any of the stuff that is being sold/created from these jobs. We are trying
to feed our families. I sure won't buy things I do not need? what is the
point of creating these jobs, if nobody will buy anything that is created?
It's ok if more jobs are created, but they should also gie people money to
go buy food, etc. to keep those jobs.

Had they given every WORKING person over the age of 21, or retired from a
real tax generating job (you've already paid your dues), a voucher for a
new economy car, that would have resolved many of the BIG 3 issues. For
instance, everyone would have an eco-friendly, fuel efficient vehicle, jobs
would be available due to the amount of vehicles to be manufactured, and
the money would have been put back into the economy. If you don't want an
economy car, it would be up to the buyer to secure a loan for the balance
of a higher end vehicle.
Had this been the case, the amount of money issued for said vouchers would have been significantly less than what they gave the BIG 3, who will only default again in a year. I'd much prefer to see my tax dollars go into the production and distribution of automobiles for the people who are footing this enormous bill. Jan 28, 2009 7:38 AM

I stay in louisianna one of the lowest paid states. I feel as though we
should ge a second stimulus because people living states like mine will be
able to take care of the buisness that are not able to take care of. A
second stimulus check would help people instead of hurting people. When I
recieved my stimulus check last year i was able to pay bills and also take
care my child with it. Why is the goverment worring about this companies
that obouvously put there selves in the predictment that they are in. Why
not give us a second one when that actually put people on there feet. I do
agree that we need more jobs . but we also need the second check to. You
have people that are in a rut- bills are piling up on them and they cant
give thier children what they need for school. so why can't the goverment
help its consumers first and then help the companies that are in debt. The
people of AMERICA need this check we are what makes this GREAT COUNTRY THEY
KEEP SAYING WE HAVE UP. THE PEOPLE OF AMERICA NEED HELP FINANCIALLY HELP US

things. The job creation is way down the road in this pkg and the bill is
FULL OF PORK. So this time the gvmnt can't afford to give the checks but
can bail out banks and companies many of which spent gave much of their
bailout to CEO compensation pkgs etc. So nothing for the poor and
struggling elderly the recently pink slipped but plenty for pet
projects,super computer for NOAA etc..

page to vent and not a page for change. We the people speak out but no one

about us working class people as long as we keep paying taxes you keep
dishing out money to places that dont NEED it.
Seems so easy to hand out money to the rich and us middle class people working anywhere from 10-40,000 a year get the shaft. You think giving us a whole 44 dollar tax cut is great well try putting the shoe on the other foot. Even handing out a stimulus check does not solve future problems. People use most of the money for PAST DUE bills and not splurging. That leads us in the same spot and not moving forward. Either way i could write a novel and no one may never read this. We try and try to tell you how to help and it seems we are in a far echo being barely heard. guess we have to own business to get some tax cuts. I work in a warehouse lifting over 14,000 boxes a day and iwork hard for my money just so at the end of the week i look at all the taxes being taken out for crap like lazy people who dont want to work or better yet for the roads to be fix that no matter how much money you put dish out including toll money they never get any better. WE pay for the gov't. nice huge checks, while we sit home and your enjoying our hard earned money. Someone needs to take a stand and make life easier for everyone so people dont have to steal, lie, or kill for money. Make it accessible for those who wanna work and for those who work hard and seem to never get ahead. Listen to the people and not with your pockets. Jan 28, 2009 4:12 PM

Billions have been given to banks when people are out of work, going to food
banks or maxing out credit cards jus to get by. Everyone should max out
their cards &refuse to pay as their tax dollars already did so. People
are losing homes They struggled to pay for-- because of high property
taxes. Property taxes should be eliminated --at least for those with little
or no income. Tax breaks will NOT help the immediate problem. We need money
in our pockets now--and THAT SPENDING will help the economy.

Bush caused all this economic problem and he got away with all his
dishonesty. Many did not benefit from the 2008 stimulus because they had no
job or made less than $3000 for the year. We need a stimulus check now for
everyone-- the unemployed and poor. Future jobs and tax cuts will not pay
the bills now or feed the hungrey. Abolish al income taxes and property
taxes-- raise sales tax. Then EVERYONE pays the same amount. America is in
trouble & bailing out banks was a waste of tax dollars.

some of the problems are that there are too many americans NOT willing to
roll up their sleeves and actually perform manual labor. You know, there
are many people here in the southern region that still have jobs. Do you
know why? They are not waiting for jobs available in their field. They
are applying at fast food restaurants. They are going to work for Wal
mart or Sam's club. They are scrubbing toilets in gas stations. They are
picking potatoes, pecans, or any other crop. They are working long hours
and hard days for meager pay, but some pay is better than NO pay, right?
It's not about abusing the system or using it. It's about getting things
done and cutting back. I say make drug tests required for government aid
like food stamps, TANF, welfare, and anything like that. That will
eliminate about 70% of the people who don't deserve it. I mean, if they
have money to buy drugs, why can't they buy food? or pay their light bill?
I'd pee in a cup to get assistance if I needed it. I have needed it
before and would have gladly peed in a cup then. There is so much that
needs to change, but it's this way because we've allowed it to get this
way. We are looking to washington to change it for us. Forget that.
YOu'll get nothing but smoke blown up a certain orifice meant for exit
only. Do something about it yourself. Quit blowing your money on stupid
crap. YOu don't need that thirty foot boat. You don't need that brand new
gas guzzler. You don't need the top name brand items. If you can afford
it WITHOUT putting yourself in debt, then get it. If you need to pay for
it with a credit card because you can barely afford your bills, maybe you
need to rethink as to whether you need the latest styles from louis
vuitton. Maybe you just need to go to Walmart and be satisfied for the
clothes on your back?

Having a new job would be better, but who is really saying that the job is
going to last. The money would not last either, but it would help millions
of taxpayers out. They bail out all these companies, that are paying their
CEO's and staff under them, hundreds of thousands of dollars and millions
in bonuses. Then they turn around and say they need money for their
company. That is B.S. Give the people a bailout of $100,000 or portion of
the $800 billion they got and the people will boost the economy by paying
off their debts, and buying new things. That is what will boost the
economy, because they will be paying off banks, dealerships, etc...

I believe the people should get a stimulus and a very large one at that.
We keep giving these big banking corps and car companies money and they
hang on to it in hopes of making it through the recession instead of
creating jobs or keeping employees, etc. If the last billions of bailout
money were given to the consumers, all of these companies would be thriving
more than ever before. With the amount of money given to these
corporations the govt could have given every tax paying citizen 200,000
dollars. Stipulations to pay off debt could have been enforced and the
housing industry, car companies and small business' as well would be
soaring. Along with the American people who would be debt free and have
money to spend on luxuries to buy new homes, cars and whatever they
desired. Am I the only one who sees this? Honestly, this is the only way
to help our country. Help the people so we can help the companies and its
employees! It is truly that simple.

I feel the same way a lot of you do a second check would be nice, however
it will not go far, yes pay off some bills and maybe buy something a little
extra. I have been looking for a job for several weeks now and can not find
one. Several of my family members and friends are getting laid off from
their jobs not knowing if they will return back to work. Companies really
need the help keeping their employees and also hiring new employees they
are the ones that really need a bail out. Help them keep employees so they
can work and put their money back into the economy.

instead of bailing out our big name company leaders with millions in
bonuses when all they do is run the company into the ground, send out some
more money to those middle class citizens who really need the help in these
dire needs. However if the government is going to give a rebate they
should do it with prepaid credit cards and not checks. Checks do not
gaurentee the money going back into the economy. Monies could possibly and
most likely leak into the drug world or black market instead of to the
businesses that need the money. Prepaid credit cards will most definetely
influence economy better then last years checks. That is if we get a 2009
tax rebate...

Hmmm..... Back in the 1980's there was this trickle down plan and I acually
went 10 years with no raise. During the same time my company owners
udgraded to very nice Lincoln Towne cars. When I mentioned I hadn't had a
raise in 10 years I was told they did not care if it had been 100 years.
Sadly I had to leave 16 years seniority. But here we are again giving
billions to the same mentality group of people hoping they do not just
pocket it. I would bet what little I now have left that this is the only
way they will respond. This tax cut is a joke and will in no way make any
difference in the declining economy. The unemployed will get nothing.
Having them just keep their Monoply money would do us better in the end
rather than the $50 - $100 a month we will see if you do have a job still.
Might as well give everyone in the World one cent because it will disappear

when they bailed out the banks what they should have done was divide all
that money and put it in the american pockets then we could have paid off
ALL OUR DEBTS and the banks would have still gotten their money, we could
have went out and bought new cars and then the auto industry would have
been saved, and we still would have had money to go and just buy whatever
we wanted to help the economy even more. But instead the banks are hurting
again, auto industry in worse, and the economy has fallen further in the
hole.

My comment is in reguards to a comment from Jan 5 at 11:18am their comment
follows:
It sounds as though the poor and the elderly will receive no help from the stimulus package that the Obama team has come up with. Our only source of income is social security so a tax credit will not help us and the poor do not make enough to even pay taxes. A stimulus check would help buy things we can not normally afford. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. The banks and AIG don't appreciate it but we sure would. Now begins my comment... I'm sorry but there are ENOUGH programs for the POOR who "do not make enough to even pay taxes." They ALREADY are eligable for certain privilages that WORKING, EDUCATED people are not eligable for because WE are the ones penalized for looking for and holding down more than a min. wage job...It is the lower class ppl (lower class today is defined as those earning $125K or LESS...poverty is under $35K) [it is the lower class] that pay for the poverty level...if they PAID taxes, instead of getting an EIC credit (in which they get back thousands and pay in NOTHING), then perhaps we could all stimulate our OWN economy... meds. should have been high on the list for help with a stimulus check, but
as ususal we count the least .

Hey just to respond to your comment about an '09 stimulus, I actually just
filed my taxes and I'm getting a stimulus rebate this year again! I only
got 300 last year. This year I'm getting another 300. I just found out
about it, and that I was eligible out of the blue so it may come as a
surprise to many like myself

Everyone is sitting there complaining about the last stimulus package was
only $300 and it wasn't much money. Well live on SSI being disabled and
still not being able to get the stimulus package because of being too poor.
I don't make much money at all and cannot afford to live in the world now.
Why can't they help everyone and not just give the money to the greedy CEOs
that need jets and new cars? They need to have steak, lobster, baked
potatoes for dinner every night or paying thousands of dollars a month for
food, but yet people on SSI or social security maybe can live on $100 a
month for food. There's days in the month I go without food. So don't think
that helping the rich money hungry people is going to help the poor. Help
everyone out, not just a select few.

"NO A STIMULUS FOR THIS YEAR IS DECLARED at this time."
"NO A STIMULUS FOR THIS YEAR IS DECLARED at this time." "NO A STIMULUS FOR THIS YEAR IS DECLARED at this time." "NO A STIMULUS FOR THIS YEAR IS DECLARED at this time." "NO A STIMULUS FOR THIS YEAR IS DECLARED at this time." It is still in hopes of many. However let me tell my story. I have a college degree from a well known university and this year I used my 2008 stimulus payment as part of the initial startup cost of my new business. I made a wimpy 8000.00 through the first year. You may think I would not have to pay taxes because I am well below poverty level in my first year. Guess what it isnt easy to start a business, come up with capital, give up rights to unemployment and other government programs, and have the guts to say enough is enough I am going to succeed. After everything is said and done. I owe the IRS 500.00 at the end of the year. I sure could use a stimulous to keep going. Feb 3, 2009 9:11 PM

$1200 for a married couple??? Please! My mortgage is more than that every
month on a $120,000 house! Make mortgage companies refinance everyone with
ARMs and then see how good the economy comes out! I'd spend more if I
wasn't spending half my monthly pay on my mortgage alone. In my 30 year
loan I will pay more than $350k for a 120k house. Has anyone ever realized
how retarded that is??? And giving everyone a million dollars would
increase inflation because no one would want to work you geniuses! Lower
taxes, adjust ARMs, stop bailing out large corporations who mismanage their
own money by paying CEO's billions, and for the love of God, DRILL OUR OWN
DAMN OIL!!!!

STIMULUS? Ha!...what good will it honestly do if Governor Ted Strickland's
plan goes into effect? All that SOB is wanting to do is raise raise raise
to put a little more money into his pocket. They give a little *free* money
then take it all, plus some, back by raising taxes and prices on other
things. How does a small stimulus check truly help any of us? By allowing
us to receive it and spend it like they intend and then *penalize* (so to
speak) this nation by such rising costs on everything? I think the stimulus
is a way to throw the people off of their (gov't) yet new scheming and
*thieving* ways. This gov't has gone to hell plain and simple! These
*hopeful promises* may help to ease their minds enough to sleep easy at
night, but my nights are still the same with my eyes open more than they
are shut due to wondering how I'm going to survive another day of this
crap!!

The banks and AIG don't appreciate it but we sure would.

don't get me wrong i would love to get a stimulus check this year. it would
actually help me personally. i work at a restaurant making 10.25 an hour,
at least until it burned down 2 days after christmas. bad timing
considering the record job losses due to slow business and this tragedy
happens. but a one time check for 600 or 1000 is just a quick fix. i also
wouldnt mind the idea of giving everyone 100,000 but that would just give
people an easy way out because as bad big CEO's and gov't agents have made
it, its everyone's fault too. I've been around enough people to know that
no matter what we do we dont make enough money, no wonder our jobs are
going to foreigners and illegal aliens. society is a fickle bitch. its
like high school life for everyone. everyone has to have what their
neighbor has even if they cant afford it. my transitions suck so bear with
me, but the gap between business leaders/owners and workers is also to
much. i understand that tough decisions affecting a lot of people is hard
but those people/companies are no where without the working majority. and
while we are complaining about CEO's giving bonuses why dont we get on our
athletes. Manny Ramirez just turned down a 1 year-25 million dollar deal.
That should piss off everyone in these times. And like I said about High
School life, it comes down to kids too. Kids are too demanding and parents
are too willing to give these kids everything. 11 y/o with cell phones,
are you kidding me? The population growth is too great. Instead of
offering an EIC for every child you have and getting less taxes taken out
the more kids you have it should be reversed. Im sure there are people out
there who have kids just for the tax credit. Im mean a woman with 6 kids
who has 8 more at once, thats just criminal............There I feel better.

The comment above that said some people have children to make money? You
are very uninformed. When you do your taxes and have children you can not
put EVERY child on your taxes. For instance, I have 3 children, if I did
qualify for Earned Income I would only be able to claim 2 of those children
that is it.
Also, the stimulus check we received we were only able to claim 2 of the kids. So having children to "make money" as you say is absolutely absurd! The little amount you do GET back from taxes from having children does not even come CLOSE to the amount you spend in a year on that child! Feb 4, 2009 7:50 PM

well, take a look at how much of our tax dollars were spent to bail out
these BIG companies, take that total and divide it by the total of the
nations population, i guarantee that every individual would get at least
120,000 dollars a piece, now that is a stimulus, you can pay for some
colleges, that means looking out for the future, you can pay all your
bills, looking after the companies that now need the bail outs, and even
better yet, you can stimulate the entire unites states, wouldnt that be
nice, as for a second stimulus, i dont think we as american INDIVIDUALS
will be getting another one, sorry, but it was nice to talk abot it, THANK

For the person that said that medicines do not matter to go and get a
generic, that is easier said than done...I am a mother of 3 and current
nursing student and all 3 of my children have asthma and there is no
generic that is comparable to their current meds, and from experience I
worked in a pharmacy and not all meds have a generic that is cheaper. I am
in favor of the stimulus package and believe that it should be given to the
Americans who are struggle to keep what they have not the rich. Instead of
bailing out banks and mortgage companies they could have paid off everyones
mortgage and came out cheaper and it would have helped the banks and US.
BAILING OUT THE COMPANIES AND THE RICH WILL NOT HELP THE ECONOMY!!! I know
how it is to go from making ends meet to nothing, My husband worked for
Ford for 13 years and we lived comfortably and now we can not even make it

If the purpose of this stimulus plan it to stimulate the economy, then why
don't congress send WORKING Americans a large check! I would spend it the
first month. Also, the congress are worried about some paying off bills
with it rather than spending it; well, wouldn't it be better for the people
with the loans to pay it off rather than the government giving it to the
banks. What is wrong with the congress? I wish they would step out of

Instead of these $100 Billion bailouts, here's what we should do:( IT WILL
NEVER HAPPEN, BUT IT WOULD WORK !!)GIVE EVERY QUALIFYING WORKER IN THE USA
ABOUT $400K..IT WOULD BE TAXED,so Uncle Sam gets about 1/3 or more back
already.WHAT WOULD THE AVERAGE AMERICAN DO WITH THIS?? IT'S ENDLESS !! PAY
OFF A MORTGAGE(housing crisis solved)..Pay off all unsecred debt ( credit
cricis solved)..Pay for college, pay off unisured medical expenses (2 more
major problems solved)..Buy a new car,major appliances,Family
vacations,etc...(retail economic cricis solved..AND more jobs will be
created or preserved in those industries !!..Is this starting to make any
sense yet?? WHY BAIL OUT A FEW GREEDY,INCOMPETENT FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS
AND AUTOMAKERS WHEN ALL THEY ARE GOING TO DO IS PISS THE MONEY AWAY WITH
THEIR PRIVATE JETS AND 7 FIGURE BONUSES??..INSTEAD OUR GOVERNMENT SHOULD
GIVE THESE "BILLIONS" TO THE AMERICAN WORKERS AND WE WILL FEED IT
BACK INTO THE ECONOMY IN EVERY INDUSTRY AND BUSINESS YOU CAN THINK OF !!!
OUR ECONOMY WOULD SEE A NEW LIFE !!

TAXATION WITHOUT COMPTENT REPRESENTATION!!! Sounds like we a need a
billion citizens march on D.C. to let our new President know we don't want
our tax dollars bailing out big business and putting us more in debt when
we need the money ourselves to keep our families going strong. The economy
will change we stand up and demand that our rights be secured, protected
and valued - and we demand that our tax money - that WE THE PEOPLE paid -
be returned to us to pull ourselves through these tough financial woes. I
agree that each giving each citizen $one-million would have been the
correct solution and cheaper than bailing out the banks and auto makers!

I feel that bailing out businesses is good idea to help them get on their
feet, but we as the consumer need the money to buy the products that the
businesses produce. If the consumer cannot afford to buy the products then
what is the sense. Bailing them out will only help for a little while. It
may create new jobs, but how long are the new jobs going to last. People
will have a job and then get laid off if the consumers cannot buy the
products. I am a health care worker and I guess went into a new tax
bracket, I have to pay the Federal government this year, which I have never
had to do before. I always looked forward to income tax refunds, but that
was not the case this year. I need the money not the businesses. If
businesses were not so sneaky and tried to cover up investments then we
would not be in this situation.

The first time instead of wasting our tax money on companies that loaned
money to people they should not have. They should have given it to the tax
paying middle and low income Working or those trying to find a job. Not the
ones sitting on their butt getting a check every month for stupid reasons.
The good hard working people would have paid their debts and bills. Then
they would have had more money to spend on other things and that would help
the economy. The companies that loaned money to people that they should not
have needed to go out of business. If they would have given it to hard
working Americans that work, pay their taxes and don’t break the law. Then
the amount that could have been paid to each person would have been
tremendous. Instead of that stupid one we got a few months before.
Now they are talking about a second one and it might be around 800-900 dollars and would cost the country about 150 billion dollars. What is this stimulus going to stimulate, only our hopes. 800-900 dollars is not enough to do anything. Most good, hard working people are going to put it towards their debts. So if it is not 10000 or more then it’s a waste of time and paper. With an amount like that most people could pay off or at least put a big dent in their debt. And that would encourage people to spend more and that would help the economy. Giving money to companies that we owe money to is not the way to encourage the American people. We are up crap creak and its not going to get better any time soon. We have not hit bottom yet. If some major changes are not made and soon its only going to get much worse. Feb 7, 2009 8:25 PM

Wow I am surprised to read some of the comments. Some people are filled
with so much hate. I would really appreciate another stimulus check
because I need to help with my tuition this summer. I am trying to finish
school next Spring and I won't have enough saved to purchase books being a
divorced mother who does not received any support. The rebate does nothing
for me. I have been using my credit cards each semester and paying them
off every time I get my financial aid check. This semester I paid it off
early with my tax return because my books were extremely high ($597). So I
say that to tell you all that everyone that is poor is not sitting on their
behinds being lazy or waiting for someone else to take care of them. I am
getting my education so I can make a better life for children and myself.
I pray that a stimulus check gets a approved!

Here is what I think needs to be done, put (x) amount of dollars onto a
sort of debit card that has (0) cash value. People cant use this card to
buy a car, or put towards a mortgage payment but it does you absolutely no
good to just sit on it, like so many people did with there stimulus check.
What that's going to do is make people get out there and buy things such as
cloths or food, stuff of that nature. Doing this will not only boost the
economy but it will create new jobs! If the government considers something
like this I believe it would be more effective than just sending a check
for people to stick in there bank accounts. Just my 2 cents, thanks for
reading.

I can't put my trust into government. Democrat/Republican....it doesn't
matter. I have worked since the age of 15, I am now 46. I have raised two
daughters on my own, taken care of a parent who became paralized from a
stroke. My daughters are now grown, one married and one just finished
college, my disabled mother has passed away. At a time that I should be
excited for my future and the time for some financial burdens to be
relieved of...I'm faced with struggling now more than I ever have before. I
work for a sister paper of the Chicago Suntimes, have for nine years. Five
years ago, our CEO ran off with 60 million, Conrad Black...who is serving
time, but thanks to him, I am also. I had to take a painful pay cut at that
time and any raises have been frozen until further notice (forever). I took
a second job as a desk clerk on the weekends, third shift. Between the two
jobs, I'm putting in a healthy eighty hours per week. Rent has gone up, my
gas bill is ridiculous...so is my electric and water bill...I'm very lucky
to live within five miles of both of my jobs, because I can barely afford
to put gas in my car. I'm not complaining, I am actually grateful to have
employment...all of it, I do however, feel like I am running backwards in
waist deep water! I don't ask for help, I like to give help to others. I am
asking that people join together and speak up on this huge
"stimulus" package...who if at all is it going to help? They
better not be in such a hurry to take God out of everything, because after
all....at the end of the day, there's will be only our faith left and it
will be IN GOD WE TRUST!

I really did not understand the first Stimulus plan. Seniors who are
struggling to buy food and medicine were given HALF of what the working
class, many making over $100,000 a year. Being a senior, I wondered if we
were charged any less when we went to the grocery store or when we picked
up our medication? NOT! Sorry folks, fair is fair. We worked all our

I think if u send a stimulus check, make it worth our wild. We get taxed on
it anyway, and the goverment gets the money back anyway so what is the big
deal with giving everyone 20,000. not to much to ask because u get it back
one way or another. The check that was given out last year helped a little,
but not enough, only lasted a couple of days, so instead of bailing out
these companies give the people that deserve the money the working class.

I think that instead of handing out stimulus checks to Americans, since
they will probably be used to pay off bills (that is what I would do with
it) and NOT help stimulate the economy, they should should put that money
towards creating LOTS of jobs for the US. If more jobs are created, people
will start to buy stuff and that will start to stimulate the economy.

A stimulus check would help all. but those of you thanking that if a
person makes more than $100k should not get one are wrong. If a person
makes this money they pay taxes (a great deal of taxes). Because they make
over $100k does not mean that they do not have bills and are not hit just
as hard as someone making $35k.

but if you gonna give people something, give them something that will help
the economy. 1500 dollars wont do it, you cant buy a decent car with that
little money. why dont you give all tax payers a 10,000 to 30,000 dollars
depending on the size of their family, remember the poor people will spend
the money on what they want but cant afford otherwise
cars, boats, homes, land, tvs, etc. so ill be waiting on mine.

who cannot work, but would if they were able to. Extra money might buy a
proper suit or pay for transportation, or give the person the satisfaction
of going out and enjoying themselves at least for 1 or 2 hours. Just
because I am disabled, and need SSI to live, does not mean that I am lazy,
or that I do not wish to try, all it means is that I get a room away from
an institution, and I get to live, until they higher the price and throw me

As usual the big guys at the top get the money and the bottom feeders get
nothing. If they bailed us out we would have more money to spend and
spending would help fuel the market. The predatory lenders should have
been allowed to fail. I am a single divorced mother who is really having a
hard time making ends meet. Wouldn't be surprised if I end up homeless. I
am even considering buying a used cheep camper just in case so I can have
somewhere for all of us to sleep at least. It's just crazy.

pay my bills and I do not worry about what the Feds give the money to. I
will take care of my self and my family because I am not try to live
outside my means. A family looking to have there mortgage paid off because
they can no longer afford it is no different than a company looking for a
bail out. Wake up and stop looking for a hand out lets start looking for
the solution. Not in the form of govt stimulous checks!

Why is it that they feel the car company's deserve a bailout? They could
sell plenty of cars if they would quit raising the price's on every
thing.
The same goes for minimun wages, raising it does nothing for the economy either, it just raises the wages every where and prices of every thing in are economy. Also the state that I live in, the final increase of the minimum wage will put everyone at just about the cut off point for state assistance with child care and medical unless you are receiving it for a child or someone with permant disabilities and the state is not increasing the income amounts for these. My state is also looking at making laws to where it will be illigal to not carry medical on a child. So I have to get medical which cost more then my morgage and car and daycare which I already have problems paying being a single mom with a dead beat dad, so i will have to do this, which I wish I could afford and if I could I would already have it. So I have to do this which will put me on the streets because I will have to quit paying on something and I need daycare so I can work and the same for a vehicle so I can get to work and take my son where he needs to go. My town does not have public transportation so that is not an option. Also I don't find it fair, since I do pay out of pocket before I leave the dr. office, Im not trying to push my bills of on anyone or just ignore them. I thank the government should give medical to everyone and have a set tax that we pay on that and that would help everyone out. Some of these business' are laying off good workers because of how much they pay them and can now no longer afford, they should bring them in and tell them they have an option of taking a pay cut or they can leave. I find it terrible that in a week period 2 people are dead from killing themselves in the parking lot of the business that just laid them off. I believe banks should set reasonable salaries with the understanding that they will make there extra money on commision from the loans. Feb 11, 2009 3:16 PM

Im an iron-worker for a living making at the most 45,000 per year. I did
recieve that stimulus check last year and to be quite honest... Bush is a
dumbass, obviously. and why the heck am I not getting help with my bills.
Ha Ha, Im in debt too Government! Not because of wasting, but just trying
to survive. I am trying to buy a house at this point in time and I found
that there was a tax credit available for first time homebuyers. The sorry
part is that It HAS TO BE REPAID! wtf! Obama, you said you were working for
us, the middle class american. Well do us all a favor and raise the hard
working middle class persons wages. That is without raising the cost of
living. That would definitely help. And Im not saying that burgerflippers
should make 20.00 per hour but good grief... DO SOMETHING! Times have
changed and peoples way of thinking needs to keep up with the times. Thank

I believe that EVERY AMERICAN should recieve a stimulas REBATE check to
Boost the economy. Every American should receive $3500.00 or more so it
will be worth the while to Spend for much needed items for their homes that
would be given back to the economy. The single as well as the middle class
is in DIRE need for a boost to try to get ahead. It will take more than
$1200.00 to be able to do this:I hope that he will CUT taxes and offer the
stimulas Rebate to encourage his main objective ,that is for the GOOD of
ALL the American people:

Bear with me, a have a lot to say. Let's first start by saying that I do
not agree with the auto industry bailout. If you stimulate the economy
correctly, then it will eventually correct itself. Right now, people need
cars, but can't afford to buy them, or they just plain don't have the
credit to get one. Or they are trying to save the money to fix the ones
they have.
Second, the bank bailout, they did this to themselves along with some help from the people whom applied for the loans that knew they couldn't afford them. So, now we are going to bail them out? Mr. President, you really think that giving them this money is going to affect the American citizen? No. A majority of the American people have bad to poor credit scores. If the banks got into this situation by being 'too loose' on loans, then they should know it will get worse if they keep up that trend. So, they are going to have to 'tighten up', so to speak, which will in turn mean less loans issued to the American citizen. What is our Government thinking? I may be wrong, and that is fine, but I think that it would have been better for the Government to have bought out Bank of America, and it could have been our National Bank. The price would have been a lot cheaper than the overall bailout. Then the Government could have helped the people in foreclosure and the ones on the verge of foreclosure with re-fi options and a lower interest rate. This would have helped the government, and would have helped the citizens. I personally have struggled to maintain my mortgage. I don't even qualify for re-fi, so I had to work out a plan with my mortgage co, but if I can't maintain and catch up, then I will lose my home. The re-fi option is only for the ones who are in foreclosures, but not the ones on the verge of foreclosure. What the hell? They will affect the economy just as much in the future, if they go into foreclosure. Furthermore, let me just fill you in. I paid over $13,000.00 USD in mortgage interest in 2008. So, why do I only get $720.00 worth of reductions on my taxes for the year? This should be changed; it would put more money back into the American citizens' pocket. Third, companies pay a premium every quarter for this, regardless if anyone claims Unemployment taxes, so why isn't there enough money to give the people who have lost their jobs because of the economy. Where is the money going? Yes, I do understand that the UE Rate has risen because of lay-offs and companies closing their doors. Doesn't this money go into a fund to pay these people? The only good thing in the stimulus plan for UE is that the first $2400.00 is exempt from federal income tax. That's my opinion though. Fourth, why don't we do this? If your annual income is less than $250K a household, then send everyone that qualifies $5,000.00 USD a quarter for the next 3-4 years. This money will in turn get back into the economy and help build it back up in the long haul. And of course, tax the money. You can take it out of the checks before they are even printed, and the government would immediately get a percentage of the money back up front, and it wouldn't affect the tax-payers annual income tax return. Lastly, Is this America or what? This is a serious question. We have illegal immigrants taken our jobs, having children that we have to pay for, and they expect the Americans to have to speak Spanish. Are you freaking kidding me? This is not Spain, this is not Mexico. This is so wrong. Is our Constitution written in Spanish? Are our laws written in Spanish? You should have to speak, read, and write in ENGLISH, if you are going to be an American citizen. Let's stop worrying about other countries so much, and let's worry about America…..For the people, by the people….give me a break. You guys in politics need to read The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Most of you are lawyers, you should already understand. Feb 12, 2009 2:03 PM

Help the people and the econimy with the stimulus rebate. I think it is
wrong if people on welfare get it because most of them abuse the system

i am a 44 disabled man from Pennsylvania. come on America think a little
bit. we as americams have major credit debt consider 10000 ( mc,visa, bank
of america,ge,discover,ect.plastic). 10000
auto(dodge,nissan,toyota,ford,gm,ext). 40000 mortgage. 20000 loss in
retirement or savings. wanna bailout or market and bring back jobs? look at
the possibilities of what each American has spent or what institution could
have borrowed. If President Obama used common sense and looked at a 100,000
per adult citizen in the U.S.A minus taxes, off the top the mortgages of all
citizens would be paid down as well as bad credit and the autos of all
citizens. this would be overseen by government as necessary spending by
each person debt would be depleted considerably the market stabilized and
industry stabilized by supply and demand banks would be able to show less
bad investment freeing our loan status as well as raising up all Americans
credit rating. What is wrong with this stimulus package...

The only thing a stimulus check did for us is help us pay off credit cards
used to pay things we shouldn't have to rely on them to pay if you didn't
see a big boost in spending from the first round of checks that is probably
one of the very good reasons I don't care what you do with the money but it
would be nice if you did something that made and electric bill or a water
bill not have to be put on a credit card funny the banks got most of the
peoples stimulus and a bail out must be nice =/

I would love to suggest something that will never happen .
Every person I have ever known who received welfare spent more on illegal drugs than the children they got it for I wonder why we drug test to hire but we don't random drug test to get handouts ? If we did people would either get clean and feed their children or stay high and let people who love them have them rather than drag them through that life to qualify for the get high handout. I think all that welfare going where it should would make a big difference and I have to wonder since this is such an obvious problem with an obvious solution if the reason this isn't enforced is because maybe the money going to drugs keeps the money eventually going back where it came from if this is the case then the only people really being helped by government are the rich drug test help the kids make a difference that matters to them. Handing a check to an addict that puts it in a dealers hand untill someone gets caught and pays court fees so you get it back isn't helping the poor and handing it to banks that rob those of us not getting a handout is not helping either . If you truly cared there are answers for now I help feed those kids the mother(s) doesn't with an earned income Feb 13, 2009 8:40 AM

I as a tax payer thinks that if the government can bail out banks, and the
automotive companies, that the tax payers deserve a 2nd stimulas check. The
government should have never given the bail outs. The banks never intented
useing the tax payers bailout money the correct way. .The tax payers
desperatly need this stimulas check just to try to get ahead from the down
fall of gasoline shooting though the roof. And another subject the
government should rethink the fact that a family with children the age17
for the extra child tax credit for the parent to recieve this should be 18
instead of 17. My daughter just turned 17 last November and still likes a
year and half before she will graduate from high school, but because of the
new tax law Im unable to get the extra tax credit for her. Which hurts my
refund . The econmy is killing the tax payers. Obama is gonna have to do
something else other than create more jobs for the econmy to be able to put
money back into the econmy. We are broke.

People do you think the govt. really cares about any of our problems (the

starving children, people with no jobs, medical coverage, or other means to
survive? The jobs that we do have we are barely making it on because of
taxes and the cost of everything going through the roof, there are people
who have had there homes forever to just have them taken away because banks
don't want to help they just hold out there hand and say "GIVE ME
MORE". The govt. is so worried about helping other countries when our
own is suffering so bad and now the Great Obama hmmm NOT tells us he will

for people that has no medical insurance for the children who dont qualify
for the medical card. i feel the president needs not to bail out the
programs that keep failing. if they cant do there job and do it right then
let them go. help the real people that need the help, our seniors that have
fought for our country, and the ones that are fighting now, our low income
working people and to make sure all families have affordable insurance for
them and their children. co pays for the insurance through the jobs are
very high most of the time. and even if they arent low income families do
good to pay the bills on time and keep gas to get back and forth to work so
they dont have co pays. lets hope that things get better before we have

A $500 to a $1000 dollar stimulus check is not going to do a thing for the
people, anyone with half a brain know's this. To every question there is a
simple answer. The answer is instead of giving all those over paid company
owners billions of dollars, why not give everyone who is in povety
$100,000. Now "people" can buy homes or pay off there home, pay
off there car or buy a new car, clear out credit cards, loans, etc. Are
better yet people would have money to start a business! How about the
government contract with our rich to take over the fallen company's in
start a new line of fuel eff. cars. Bottom line their's alot of options and
no one is using there brain's. Life is a simple concept.

I think that no CFO / CEO should make more than the president of the United
State and the companies with more should be obigated to re-invest it in
benefits for there employees. Like health care ,pension and retirement.
Then the government create incentives for the companies with government
contract to creat more jobs to give more people to have a reasonalbe
quality of life. Just my opinion but seems to make sense to me.

spend spend.Quit giving to all those corpoprate big wigs and start putting

As part of this stimulus package, there would be incentives to purchase a
new vehicle or first time home buyers, the concept is great...but how can
someone purchase a new vehicle or a new home if they don't have a job???
What happened to the stimulus plan that
President Obamba talked about during his campaign? I think they should take that $789 billion dollars and distribute it among all taxpayers, doesn't matter what your status is...if you work and pay taxes...you would qualify...and let us stimulate the economy. One of the biggest reasons this isn't working, is we have lost all confidence in the very people we voted for. It is time someone grows a pair and steps up and says "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"...the banks who took these bailouts, either start lending again and knock off with their bonus pays and their trips...which by the way I always assumed you got a bonus for a job well done, does this qualify for jobs well done? And if they can't explain where all this money went that they took, then they should have to return it. And all these CEO's who are so generously cutting their pay to 1.00 per year...BIG DEAL... we could all probably do the same thing if we all took millions of dollars in an un-deserved bonus. I can only hope that some good might come of this second stimulus, and I understand the need for patience to let this all turn around, but if you've spent your life paying into a retirement fund and are nearing retirement, you don't have another life time to replenish what was lost. I read that couples are getting $1000 and singles will get $500 back. What
will that do? Obama is lecturing Americans on financial responsibility. The
country is in a crisis right now. If you are smart and someone gives you
$1000 you will pay you bills or save it for emergencies. Not spend it on
more crap you don't need whcich is what the govenment is hoping you will
do. They are hypocrites. That $1000 rebate is nothing but a forced loan.
They giving you money and you WILL eventually pay it back over time with
your taxes and I guarantee it will be more than the $1000 you'll eventually
repay.
Fix the economy? How about give everyone a tax credit equal to the amount they lost on their home. If you paid $200K for your house and now it's worth $100K...tax credit. Feb 18, 2009 9:42 AM

go under. The bad news will be unimployment would rise. At least the billions of dollars would go to help the middle class & the working poor. Also anybody notice that no matter how high minamum wage gos up the cost of living is already there. Why can't the people in the government find a way to keep the cost of living low & raise the minamum wage. Than the people makeing less than 40 thousand a year may get a little ahead. Good grief! 90% of the comments on here are about getting the government to
give the people more money. That is not the answer. Where do you think the
money the government has comes from? Do you realize best estimates are that
in the next 20-30 years, Americans will be paying close to 60% of their
income in taxes to pay for these "stimulus" packages? The
government's money is your money or it's borrowed from another country,
meaning that we're just giving them more power over us. Currently, we owe
China and other countries hundreds of billions of dollars. If they were to
call that debt, we would have no way to pay. There is no such thing as a
free lunch.
Meaning, there is nothing free in this world. A check from the government is not free money. It may take time, but we will pay for it. Feb 19, 2009 6:26 PM

What they need to do is send money to all tax payers, and companies. As for
jobs, they need to stop so many requirments. That is part of the reason
people hace a hard time getting a job. They also want everyone to have
experience, but thet don't seem to understand/remember.....you gotta start
somewhere!

I think we the should get a stimulus package as well as creating jobs
because we do need the money to help the economy but like someone said that
money is not going to last forever so we also need a stimulus package to
help create jobs. And i also think that people who work hard already and
pay taxes every year should get a stimulus package verses people who are
not working and smooching off the government already i don't think it is
for them to get a additional handout when they have being living off the
government for years its ridiculus!!!

I also think that since they are raising our gas, food etc...they need t
consider raising our pay so we wont get behind!!!! But if they do that they
will just take more taxes this is just a confusing situation all together i
think we need to get it together!!!

well I really hope that if there is going to be checks handed out that they
go to the working class and not those who are able to work & don't. I'm
a cashier at a grocery store and every day I see people use there cash
assistance (our tax money) to buy beer and cigarettes. I just don't see how
this could be aloud. maybe if the government was a little more cautious
about who they were giving hand outs to there would be more money to raise
the pay rates of the people who are actually trying and just cant make it

I think it's rather funny how so many people believe what a politician
promises when he is up for election. How niaeve can we be? How many
politicians have you voted for? In AZ we lost Janet Napaletano .....now
education has dropped from first priority to "if we get to it" so
now many teachers and school employees are losing jobs, what happends to
our future? They will be uneducated because one person decides education
isn't worth it? Personally my degree program at Arizona State University
was cut because this person and I only had a semester left for
completion.
As far as a second stimulus check? If I have to pay taxes on "free money" from our Gov. that was a "rebate" on taxes we paid then I don't want it, free money should be FREE MONEY!.....I lost some of my refund due to the tax on that rebate....thats crap! I agree with those who say to give us $10k each and let us stimulate the economy rather then give billions to a for profit business that continues raising their prices on their product and wonders why they are going broke. Why should we pay taxes on money that bails out companies we owe money to? They arent going to help us by lowering rates or giving us rebates are they? Let them all go under and then start over again....people will manage to get themselves back in to debt again, its human nature....we want what we cant afford hahaha Feb 21, 2009 7:20 PM

how is it not stimulating the economy if $ is given to the people.. if
people get the money they will spend it on things that they need.. like
me.. if they gave me $1000.. i'd put it towards payn off my bills.. but
think about it.. if my bills are payed off.. i got $ to spend on other
things that i need or want.. which in that matter CREATES JOBS!... they
need to give $ to the people that need it.. trust me.. majority of the
people in the U.S. need the $.. so the gov't needs to get their head outta

My sister was told she has cirrhosis of the liver and maybe 10 years to
live. She started to get sick at work and then call in and then had to quit
her job and file for S.S.D. She won her case and recieved S.S.D. but she
has no medical coverage of any kind including prescriptions. She will
recieve medicare in 2 years and the medicaid. But she needs medical
treatment now not 2 years from now she'll be dead. The point I am trying to
make is this.
A person is granted S.S.D. because they are disabled and need medical help but they do not get medical for 2 years. A person that has never paid S.S. can apply and get medical, food stamps and list goes on and on and takes advantage of the system. And my sister needs a shot to keep her self alive for one more day but may have to wait 2 more years to start the treatments. These shots are very expensive and we are praying she can find some kind of care out there that can help her get through this. She can not afford the shots on what she gets from S.S.D. I know when you are on S.S.I. you get medical right away. I ask why isn't it the same for S.S D. Guess where she lives? The big State of "Texas" Maybe differant depending where you live. A stimulus check could pay for a shot that she needs for one more day. Feb 22, 2009 10:04 AM

FYI: Those on Disability and Social Security Benefits will be getting a ONE
time increase in their check for $250.00.
But as many of you have already commented, what we all are receiving is what we have already put into it or will be in the future. What is going to hurt is our children, grandchildren and great - grands will be the ones to pay off all of this debt. I ask a question? Where is the change? Where is the hope? Reading through all these comments is a trip. Maybe they should put all
the money towards educating "some" people....My comment is
directed towards the person talking about having to pay the taxes for the
families who recieve food stamps. I am not rich myself but if me going to
work pays for some children to eat................GOOD! I'm glad that
while I am busting my a$$ to take care of my two children i am helping to
feed someone elses. Be smart. Your going to post a statement begging for
some check from the government which tax payers are going to pay on as well
but b**ch about a program that helps feed americans everyday.....There are
always two sides to every coin. I would like a rebate check again this
year too, but thats just putting us further in dept. I dont care who they
give the money to if it helps the country as a whole not just me. My point
is if you dont have a valid comlaint dont comment on a program that you
dont understand. Some families who recieve food stamps work and pay the
taxes on it them selves. But they still have to eat even if they dont

Well, we shouldn't have to bail out ANY of those companies. Especially the
banks. We need to GET RID OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE!!!! It's not even a
FEDERAL AGENCY! It's a private cartel of banks, who charges interest on
every dollar that is printed for our government. Interst paid curtesy of
the taxpayer. Not only that the Federal Reserve decides how much that
interest will be. How can we ever catch up with the interest owed to these
banks just for printing money? Then we bail out the banks, with more printed
money that we owe more interest on because now we've had to print more
money to bail everyone out. The American people need to wake up to this
situation and demand financial reform. Let these companies fall, let the
chips fall where they may and let these people's poor business practices be
their end.
Do most people know that banks only need to hold 10% of their "assets?" That means if I put 100.00 in a bank account they can lend 900.00 out to someone else at interest, effectively creating 900.00 out of nothing, and then getting back interest on money that doesn't even exist to begin with!!!!! See the banking laws, it's right there in black and white. We the people get royally screwed by the system, because it's not set up for US. 95% of the wealth in this country is held by 3% of the people. Doesn't leave a whole lot for the rest of us does it? first of all the wall-street bail-out was one of the stupidest things i've
seen yet. They got themselves in the mess they should have gotten
themselves out of it. The Banks should have knocked out the interest on
all of the foreclosures and let people only pay on the principle, that
would have gotten them back on track. As far as a stimulus package, I
think that each household should be given a lump sum depending on income.
The more you make the less you get. The retired and elderly have already
worked the majority of their lifetime, why should they get screwed out of
anything. The able but lazy should be drafted by the military and made to
earn their keep, especially dead-beat mothers and fathers who refuse to pay
their child-support
The low-to middle class hard working families of less than $100,00 should be able to have what's most important a home for their family. A lot of people made mistakes when they were young, and are now paying for. They pay their bills, they support their children, and work their buts off, but are still unable to have a home to call their own because of greediness. Money, "The Root of all Evil", the more you have the more you spend. So let the ones who really deserve it have it. The ones who go to work everyday, or the one's on lay-off, or the ones who have already worked all their lives that are unable to work now because of age or because of disability due to WORK INJURY. The rich don't need it, and the ones who are just lazy don't deserve it. Feb 25, 2009 12:15 AM

Wow, we all have many views about the stimulus bill. I was laid off by a 7
billion dollar a year company, Quest Diagonstics, the leading lab company
in the nation. I worked hard for this company, but in the end it was
decided to cut back on customer service so that the share holders could
gain 500 million in force reduction profits. I have mixed feelings, a check
would be nice, a job nicer, the problem is the type of jobs that the
stimulus will create is not for the adverage. I am tired of hearing how
big tax returns people get who barely work and live in goverment housing.
Seems they are always looking for a handout. I have to jump paycheck to
paycheck to pay my bills, Car finance company will not give me a break, i
must pay rent, i am a singel 43 year old, but i am getting by. Congress
needs to change, the senate needs to change, these people are as much the
problem as are the big corporations of America. We blame the last president
and his administration, well, the congress has not changed much, and they
voted to pass or fail bills and policies, The president and thier
administration are not to blame, Congess and the Senate are, WE NEED
DRASTIC CANGES. If a company fails let it, another will benifit, We cant
help that company because it is too big and not this one cause it is too
small. Many companies have closed doors already, if 2 of the 3 car
companies go under thats thier bad business!

This is one of the most stupid ideas I have ever heard. Thirteen dollars
and some change a week will not help anyone reguardless of income. This is
rediculous. Give me the money all at one time and then it will be spent
better. Maybe improvements to my house, which I struggle to pay the
mortgage, and recieve no help. Nevertheless I would buy a new water heater
and pay a professional to install it. Further STIMULATING the economy.
Thirteen dollars a week is just a JOKE. Keep the damn money, I don't want
it as I feel it is a slap in the face. All the package is, is a short term
loan from the government which will have to be paid back in the form of
higher taxes next year or the one after. Weather it be out of my paycheck
in the form of a dollar a week which I now am paying for Bush's great
idea.
That's right just throw money at problem that'll fix it. which is why automakers now want more money. Idiot, you start from the foundation when building not the roof. We still have no money to buy new cars and lenders are tighter than a knat's a**. So they won't lend. A bad problem is about to get alot worse. Feb 25, 2009 4:21 PM

ITS SAD HOW WE LOOK OUT FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT NEED IT. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO
BE AMERICA BUT IT DOESN'T SEEM THAT WAY TO ME. WHY GIVE MILLIONS AND
BILLIONS TO PEOPLE THAT HAVE ALWAYS HAD IT. WE NEED TO GIVE MONEY TO THOSE
WHO DON'T HAVE IT THIS COUNTRY HAS BEEN ON A DECLINE SINCE GOD KNOWS WHEN.
WE NEED A CHANGE WE NEED AN ALL AROUND CHANGE NOT JUST FROM THE
PRESIDENTIAL POINT. GIVE POOR PEOPLE SOME MONEY GIVE MONEY TO PEOPLE WHO
HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A JOB FOR MONTHS AND YEARS WHY GIVE MONEY TO THE MAN
OR WOMAN WHO HAS MILLIONS SAVED UP THE ONE WHO CAN AFFORD TO NOT WORK FOR
THE REST OF THERE LIVES. INSTEAD GIVE IT TO THE ONES WHO DO NOT HAVE IT THE
ONES WHO ARE LIVING PAYCHECK TO PAYCHECK NOT BY CHOICE, BUT BY SITUATION
AND CIRCUMSTANCE SOMETIMES I BELIEVE I LIVE IN THE MOST CORRUPT AND
IGNORANT COUNTRY ON THIS EARTH. WE CAN DO BETTER ITS JUST THE RICH WANT TO
GET RICHER AND NOBODY IS WILLING TO HELP THE POOR MOVE UP TO THE NEXT
LEVEL. THE MIDDLE CLASS IS ON ITS WAY DOWN TO THE POOR CLASS BEFORE WE KNOW
IT WE WILL HAVE TWO CLASSES RICH AND POOR WE ARE ON OUR WAY TO STREET WARS
TO HUNGER AND STARVATION. INSTEAD OF US HELPING FOREIGN COUNTRIES THEY WILL
SOON BE SITTING BACK LAUGHING AT US STRUGGLING LIKE THEM OUR LANDS BURNED
DOWN WATER SCARCE AND DRIED UP DISEASES ALL OVER HEALTH CARE NO MORE. THEN
WE WILL UNDERSTAND BUT BY THEN IT WILL BE TO LATE IT SEEMS LIKE IT IS GOING

WE HAVE TO ALL THIS STUFF TO GET EVEN A DEPARTMENT STORE JOB MEANING A DRUG
TEST AND ABOUT PEOPLE SHOULD TAKE A DRUG TEST IF ON FOOD STAMPS AND WHAT
EVER WELFARE PROGRAM THEY MAY BE ON IS JUST WRONG FOR SOMEONE TO SAY THERE
ARE ALOT OF PEOPLE ON THOSE PROGRAMS CAUSE NO MATTER WHAT THEY DO ENDS DONT
MEET THEY COULD BE WORKING TWO JOBS COULD OF BEEN LAID OFF OR WOKE UP ONE

DAMAGE NOT EVERYONE SITS ON THEIR COUCH AND EAT BON BONS AND COLLECT FROM

A stimulus check isn't free money, all taxpayers have to pay it back. But,
I would rather pay back money that actually went to help my family. The
CEO's that were receiving HUGE bonuses for driving their companies into the
ground should be the ones to bail them out. I agree that job creation is
very important, but where is the rest of the first bank bailout. Why can't
we have access to that? I would certainly payoff more bills than I was
able to with my tax refund. I am very lucky, my husband and I are still
employed, for how long neither one of us knows. It is definitley gonna get
worse before it gets better, but these big banks are just gonna hord the
money until every americans credit is so bad there isn't a chance for them
to help themselves. I think the government needs to take a second look at
what they are about to do.

job for 12yrs in APril. My monthly gross is 1,650. After taxes I bring
home about 1,300. Yes if it was another stimulus check coming, i think we
deserve it. Single parents not working can get a check from the
government, food stamps and an apartment/housing without paying little as
nothing. Working parent like me have to pay close to $500 or more and have
other bills to pay. Where the justice in that to help single working
parents. Working families do need another stimulus check also the elderly
need something too they deserve it.

Are these people in washington retarded, or is it that only a few of us
regular folk see more logic in spreading all those billions of dollars to
the people that will really get the economy stimulated. how? by giving each
indivisual and family at least from five to ten thousand dollars. duh,
whats the first thing they will most likely do. go out and buy that car or
at least be able to put a nice down payment on it, spend a lot of it on
clothing, do home repairs, use it for down payment on homes, feel more
comfortable about investing, spend more for vacations and entertainment and
so on and so on. Does it not make sense that the more people spend, the
more need for jobs there will be and surprise, surprise, the economy gets
kicked off. it makes a lot more sense to me to do it this way instead of
giving it to all of these big car makers, hello, if people are afraid of
losing their jobs the last thing on thier minds is buying a new car in the
first place, wall street, and the banks which by the way are just sitting
on huge amounts of money meant to bail them out. of course they are going
to be even more strict about lending money and i cant blame them with the
job market the way it is. how are they going to be more at ease about
lending me money when my job might go bellyup tomorrow. it all goes right
back to we regular people to have the ability to go out and spend money. so
get the cobb webs out of your heads and do it right! I bet you there will
have to be another round because this one, in my opinion is too small and
not going to the right people. I mean come on, AIG asks for another 30
million dollars! This will be a total of 180 million. Just think how
spending would be with the taxpayers of this country if just that much
would be dispersed to us, not to mention all the other billions that have
just vanished into thin air to these big corporatins, or should i say in
people's pocketts to buy yacts, luxurious vacations, mansions, jets and so
on. Sure this idea may seem ludicrus, but just think of it as taking the
country to the doctor to get a shot. its going to hurt at first, after all,
it would be trillions and trillions of dollars on top of all the other
money spent that has done no good at all,but in the long run it will be for
the good health of the country.

Many poor people do not sit home and collect money. Many seniors saw their
income cut or lost, and now are on Social Security only. I don't hear many
complaining. I do think the way to help them , is to raise their monthly
check. Every time they get a raise, the Medicare goes up. If they had a
little more each month, they could buy the food and medicines, and possibly
stay out of the doctor's office, and out of the emergency room. There are
also many who cannot find jobs. Some are on the dole, because they have no
childcare available, that they can afford. So, it makes sense to take care
of your children, and not lock them in while you go to work. There is no
easy solution. Tremendous amounts of our government money goes to illegals,
who are eating up our money. They pay nothing, and collect everything we
cannot get. I am not talking about legals. They are deserving, because they
came through the system the right way. Our government has caused this. I
would gladly give up my paltry stimulus package to bring the deficit down.
As it is, I would rather give it to charity, and that is exactly what I
will do.

Someone was commenting about the illegals eating the U.S. up. Think about
this scenario. Ok, illegals use fake social security numbers, I don't know
if they are made up random numbers or if the actually belong to someone,
probably both. Since they are illegal they can not file an income tax
return, all the money that is taken out of their paychecks for medicare,
social security, income tax, etc. Where does all that unclaimed money go?
Can you imagine the millions of illegals that do this just how much money
is in this "account." What happens to it? Can some of you
intellectuals explain this to me?

America is greedy! Stop living above your means and you might be able to
afford to live I'm 21 my husbands 20 I stay at home with are two infant
children and he gets paid 12 an hour and he went to school for what he
does. We pay around 2000 a month for bills and yes we have some credit card
debt but not a lot and that's just because we like to spoil are kids. We
made less then 30000 last year and that's supports a family of four I'm
tired of hearing people complain that the 60000 they made last year wasn't
enough to support their family seriously you need to rethink how you spend
your money and your livig situation if that's not enough. I don't think the
government owes anybody money and if they even give you a dollar be happy
its a dollar you didn't have before if your complaining you don't have a
job suck it up and go work fast food atleast its a job and you are getting
some income. Seriously get your heads out of your butts and stop living in
a dram world money doesn't grow on trees you have to earn it. Do you really
thing the government needs to give you 100000 for what breathing yea I
don't think so maybe if your disabled but severally not just if your back
hurts or your knee or something like that and as for the older people I
don't think you should get anything your the reason the economy is so bad
you should of thought about saving when you were younger now toe just
taking over a hundred dollars out of every paycheck my husband gets to go
to social security that he will never see and the 600 you get a month isn't

They shouldn't do a second stimulus check because the point of it is to
restart the economy. If you save the money you get or use it to pay of a
previous debt you aren't using it right so why would they hand out more
money that they know they are not going to see again. Paying your bills and
your morgage is not what it is intended for. Don't bitch and moan that the
money you got wasn't even enough to pay for your bills because you should
have a JOB that pays for that stuff and if that's not enough get a roommate
or another job and get rid of things you don't need like cell phones TV and
internet.

why in the world would chrysler and citi complain they need more money to
"function" and cry they need money just to survive and then when
they get it they give it to some damn country that is just as bad off as we
are?
I could use a stimulas check better than chrystler and citi so why not give it to people who are unemployed and ready to loose everything? Didnt Obama say he is for the working families? Then why in the world is he not doing what he promised? Why let out so called congressman bid for us these stupid PORKY stuff? Did they ask me what I want to improve on in my state? Hell No! How could we be so stupid to vote in people who want to take avantage of the tax payers? Come on people are we going to have to to washington ourselves? Mar 12, 2009 4:49 PM

I think that the working Americans should receive a stimulus check and then
the jobless people will see that the hard working Americans receive a

get me a job too so I can also get a stimulus check.

the same to us the people that work for a living will they bail us out why
give to the big companies when they are making so much money and keep
raising prices that the working people can't even afford to buy from them
Can on Give to the real people and have a straight across Tax if you make
over 85,000.00 a year you pay 15% tax One time not all year then retax that
same money again. if less 85,000.00 and more then 70,000.00 you pay 105 so
on and so on.If over 100,000.00 you pay 25% Come on lets get the real

Here's a crazy idea. How about EVERYBODY stops standing around with their
hand out and get to work. Individuals, Companies, Banks, everyone is just
standing around saying GIMME MORE, GIMME MORE. People seem to have
forgotten what work is all about. It's not just an exchange of money for a
service provided, it's a personal decision a person or group makes to
accomplish something. At 21 years old I am able to provide for my wife and
2 children on my salary alone. Not because I come from a silver spoon life,
but because I am willing to WORK. I worked for free to develop a skill that
eventually lead to earning a living. WORK ON YOURSELVES BEFORE ASKING FOR
OTHER PEOPLE TO BAIL YOU OUT. I feel no remorse for the retards who are 40
and have no marketable skills, except scamming the system. I dont care if
it's hard, or if the benefits are better on unemployment, get a job, any
menial job will do, work your butt of, and see if your needs aren't met.
The government should not be handing out money to ANYONE. That's not why it
was created. The government is only around to ensure that the individual
rights of each person are upheld, not to take from the rich and give to the
poor.
P.S. Anyone who posted here complaining of being poor should be hit in the face with a tack hammer, those who are truely "poor" would have no idea how to operate a computer, or even read for that matter. Mar 15, 2009 12:08 PM

You know I am a single mother of 4 small kids and due to health problems
with my youngest son I had trouble working so I only got a small amount on
my tax return. I really hope that this year I will get a stimulus check it
would really help out with bills that are adding up. I hate that last year
there was such a high income bracket to recieve the stimulus check. I have
faith in President Obama and I hope that he is going to change these bad
times we are all having. I know I am not the only single parent out there
that is having bad times.

i think one thing that got this country where it is today is because of
credit. people going out and buying stuff when they don't have the money to
pay for it. on the other hand who has 60 or 70 thousand dollars just
sitting around to go buy a house? for the lending company that charge the
people two or three times what they borrow i think should have to bail the
country out. i also think the gas companys that charged us to damn much
money for our gas should also have to bail us out. are we really getting
any where when the american WORKING people have to pay back all of this
money the government keeps borrowing? all i know is i am fed up with the
way this country is being handle. why go to war and then build them back
when we have disaster areas right here that haven't been built back. are
they going to build back our trade center? hell no!!!!!!!!!

Want to help the economy get back the billions of dollar given to these
companies that probably don't pay taxes and give to the working people that
there houses are in forclosures, the unemployed the americans that pay taxes
I eay aabout a million dollars to each tax payer that has an income of less
than 50,000.00 I know that would help them get back on there feet I know it
would help me pay all my bills and get back my home.

I would love another stimulus check. If not, the money would just be sent

the rich people their "fair share" would be an added bonus for

should be spent to clear credit up, to catch up on mortgage and rent, and
to pay off loans, and we must show proof that this was done, or you will be
jailed, or have to pay back these funds, that will make everyone do what
should be done with the funds and the econonmy will be ok, people are

I think it is unfair to everyone that we are not getting a stimulus check
this year. I live in Arkansas times are very hard, there are not any jobs
in the small town i live. I'm trying to put myself through college and my
daughter is planning to go to college also. I stay depressed because I
worry about alot of things. To me it seems likes the poor is getting porrer
and the rich is getting richer. The poor should fit in the stmulus package
somewhere. We also need jobs. It is very terrible around here now. I hope
the president help us too and not forget about us.Yes I agree, a second

First of all, I want to say that it seems that many people that have
commented on this page do not have the best spelling, or should I say they
do not seem to know proper speech. Things have changed so much over the
recent years that even comment pages such as this do spell check for us
now. I believe it would be a wonderful idea to know how to speak before
choosing to write comments.
That being said, I too believe that in theory the stimulus package is a great idea. Bailing out businesses is not the best use of our tax money, especially when it seems that the bail out money is going straight in the pockets of the CEO's rather than the business itself. Last year, being a young, single, working member of society, I received $600.00. I know that it really helped me, as I'm sure it did with many people. Even though that doesn't sound like the most money in the world, it was just enough to help me on my way to returning to finish college. However, what did the government have to cut back on in order to provide "us" with some of our tax money back? If they would learn to cut back on things like fixing up fancy offices and trips for government workers, then maybe they would have enough of "our tax money" left to help us out again in a crunch. I guess you can see that I am somewhat on the fence on this issue. I do believe that it helped people last year, and would help people again this year, however, I wonder what we need to do to let our government officials know that they don't need all the fanciest things. They don't need $10,000 chairs in their offices. That money could be much better spent on the people that pay their salary, that paid for them to pick out their fancy things. Apr 7, 2009 2:12 PM

It's sad how much of a joke our government is. The president admitted that
the government spending was out of control and many cuts needed to be made,
yet the first big spending decision he made was to fund abortions in other
countries. Yah, that makes since. Let's now give hard-working American's
money over to other countries to help them kill innocent life, because that
will help our critical economy to recover. BIG JOKE!!!! He could take that
funding money and give it back to the hard-working class of Americans who
are barely making ends meet.

I think that a stimulus check would be nice to help people. All the money
that was put into these auto. industries and big shot business's was a big
joke because people still cant buy the things that they are selling. We the
people are BROKE!!! I work 2 jobs and live paycheck to paycheck. some of my
bills are so far behind that I don't think I will ever get them paid up.
Alot of people are like that. I don't know what they are going to do but
they better do something soon because people are starving. people are
homeless. the worst part of it all is, the rich people and Obama can lie
down everynight in a comfortable bed with everything they ever wanted and
more and they never loose one minutes sleep over the american people that
are suffering. THESE ARE THE PEOPLE THAT WILL MAKE IT because they don't
care what happens to us. All that matters is there money and there life.

My comment is this.......It's not our fault these multi million dollar
corporations can't pay their bills so why should we the TaxPayers have to
carry them. They are the ones who messed up. We didn't mess up for them.
Instead of spending billions to bail them out of their messes...and instead
of spending billions to bail out other countries is what we always seem to
have to do. Why not take care of our American Citizens. That's where the
help is most needed. There's so many people that are unemployed and for
most it's not their faults. It's the fault of that multi million dollar
corporation that they were working for. Because instead of spending to take
better care of their employees. They are spending money on bonuses for
executives and expensive so called business trips and whatever else they
want to do and that's what causing these people to go under.
Misappropriated spending. So then once they do that ... then it's our blue
collar workers and their families that are caught in the crossfire and are
stuck standing at the unemployment lines. Everyone thinks it's easy to find
a job.. Well with the mess the economy is in today.. It's not as easy as a
lot of people think it is. So yeah I say give back to the American people
and let the big business figure things out for themselves.

the math is very simple. the reason why these companies needed bailout
money was obviously because people are losing their jobs so don't have the
funds to buy things and people are losing their jobs because companies are
not selling enough to keep the business running. So here is the solution.
Let the companies either file bankruptcy or apply for a loan through a loan
company or bank. Then the tax payers should get the government bailout
money and then they can start buying things again and the companies can
start seeing profits again, thus creating jobs. Ding ding ding, we have a
winner. These bailouts to certain companies is only a temporary solution
and will only cause everything to return back to point "A" and
probably will cause more debt in the long run.

While some of these comments refer to the poor as lazy, I am poor, and have
had to work 3 jobs to support my children. If deadbeat parents would pay
support as court ordered this would take the burden off of some of us. I
have had to leave my kids to be raised by someone else so I could keep a
roof over thier head. By working those 3 jobs I didn't qualify for
foodstamps. Although my neighbor who had 3 kids didn't work and had her
rent paid by housing, she got $500.00 a foodstamps. I was in a car wreck
that left me unable to walk for over 6 months and got so far behind on my
bills I lost my house and was left homeless. Well, after living in someone
elses home for a while I got me a place to live with my kids and still
dealing with the pain from the back injury I work 11-14 hours a day to get
caught up. This stimulas is a joke. I would rather see better pay, lower
the tax for people under 100k a year. I would so much rather see the money
all year than a 9000k dollar tax return. Sure it helps guess what as the
kids get old my refund goes down and my taxes go up. I think working
people should get the foodstamps and these people who don't work should get
less then maybe they would get out and find a job. One more thing, they
counted my $360 in child support towards foodstams and I wasn't even
getting it. How is that for the government? I want to see better pay for
people. Seriously how can a single parent with even 1 kid afford to pay
$600 in rent, AMEREN, and feed their children?

I'm single,at 46, with no children living with me, I made less than
10,000.00 last year and worked a full time job. I'm not paying as much in
taxes each paycheck now, but what happens when I have to file taxes next
year? I was just diagnoised with cancer & at this time have 12,000.00
in medical bills & haven't even started treatment or for that matter
haven't even gotten past the primary exams from numerous doctors. I get
really sick of hearing about banks, companies, etc. getting bailed out when
as far as I'm concerned they got themselves in that position to begin with.
There is always a "bottom" at the end of the well. What good
does it do to "bail them out" when the American people can't
afford to buy their products in the end. I have a son in the ARMY, pulling
his second tour in Iraq & just re-enlisted...but what will he come home
to? I don't ask for anything I don't feel like I've earned, but as my

I live on disability due to very severe pain from fibromyalgia & work
injuries. I make what is considered lower class for sure but still i know
others get less than me. Yes, i have a computer & a satellite dish, but
if not for these distractions from my pain, i may not be here today (read
into that what you will.) I rec'd the $250 check & it is being saved to
help pay for my property taxes in July, along with the Homestead credit.
So, there is almost $1000 right there, i can't ever get ahead to save up
for heating costs, electric & my medicare supplement (which i could get
rid of, but IF i should have a serious medical emergency, this way i am
totally covered.) And believe me, the supplement is not cheap. So when i
get my check, right off the top, $400 goes for electric, the medicare
supplement ins., and meds for the month. And if i have a car problem??
Well, who knows? Guess i'll have to beg money off someone. And what is even
more unfair, my mom is on railroad retirement from my deceased father's
work record, & IT NEVER INCREASES!!! She is going to get the same
amount till she dies. AND, she did not receive the $250, why??? She needs
it as bad as the next person, because she helps me & my sickly brother.
Yeh, the poor do get poorer, it isn't cause we are lazy, some may be, but
that is not usually the case. Believe me, i'd rather work than be on a
fixed income. It sucks to know you are dependent on just that income &
the kindness of family or friends to maybe help you out. Until one walks in
our shoes, one shouldn't judge.

Ok, at first everyone was complaining that noone would be recieving any
stimulus money, exspecially those who recieve SSI, then you revieve the
$250 dollars extra that I'm sure was apprecieted none the less, and those
of us who are working still haven't seen anything, and I'm not too sure if
anyone even knows if we will or not.
I read through a lot of these comments and was disgusted by some. I ama single mother with four children, I work 32 hours. a week making $9/hr. as well as going to school full time. I do recieve enefits from the government, such as foodstamps, medical aid, and rental assistance. The one comment about everyone who gets help from the govt are addicts or something along those lines (ridiculous). I don't use drugs or drink, I may be stressed, but see if people would educate themselves about the program that Clinton put into action when he was in office, those who recieve welfare HAVE to find a job, and they have a limited time to do it. These are all prgramed based with the ultimate goal of the individual revieving help becomingg self-sufficient. Education is very important, and discussing something to which you are not educated on makes you look very ignorant. Come on people we are all complaining about one thing or another but when it comes down to it, who wouldn't spend the check if it was deposited into your bank account. The thing is, and I only seen this mentioned maybe two times, but see our Great President Obama, or the Previous President Bush, and so on, DO NOT have the final say in how this world is going to finalize, it is up to us to utilize the tools that have been given to us through other human beings by the power of GOD! God says I AM the ONLY way. God is a selfish God, and we are not to lust after the things of the world, we are lo love and trust the Creator. God will see to it that everything works out according to his plan. Just have some faith people and learn to live a little and maybe smile even though its hard. But we do have that power to turn our frowns upside down. Just food for thought. Jun 18, 2009 9:49 PM

and about that tax credit to buy a house...yeah right. my husband and i
